The Saint Benezet Bridge
The ‘Pont d’Avignon’ is a famous bridge that inspired a famous old French song for kids. (‘Sur le Pont d’Avignon on y danse, on y danse, sur le Pont d’Avignon on y danse tous en rond’.). Did you know that the real name of the bridge is the Saint Benezet Bridge in tribute to Saint Benezet who initiated it? The song says that people were dancing ‘on’ the bridge, but they were actually dancing ‘under’ it!
